Hate the idea of being at the mercy of a tour guide who can barely make time for the 20 tourists on his bus? Ever wished you could interact with the locals and immerse yourself in the culture of the country you’ve traveled to? Then weekeego may be your answer. Founded by two friends, weekeego (named for collaborative websites called ‘Wikis’) helps you participate in your vacation rather than being a passive spectator.
You could relocate turtle eggs in Ghana, or build water wells in South Africa or even hunt with indigenous tribes in the Amazon. The idea is to give you a deeper experience of the community by involving you in activities that are unique to the location you have chosen.
Through our website you can also network and plan your adventure with other like-minded travelers. Currently, we have a selection of over 30 locations such as Samoa, Sulawesi, Morocco and Dominica. Eventually, we want to see people adding more spots by themselves, creating local projects and inviting others. This will turn into a tangible contribution to the local communities and the world.
Weekeego’s worldwide partner network of hostels, lodges and guesthouses, are rated on three scales: the beauty of the location (weekeeLocation), insight into the local culture (weekeensight), and involvement in the local community (weekeensight). Prices per person range from EURO 75 for a week-long trek with Egyptian Bedouins in Sinai to Euro 1636 for six days learning Italian cuisine in Tuscany.
